Serhii Sviriba is Managing Partner of Kyiv office of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev and Partners. He is a Head of International Arbitration & Litigation Practice, specializing in pre-arbitration and arbitration procedures in Ukraine, the European Union, and the United States. Mr. Sviriba has represented national and international companies before the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the High Commercial Court of Ukraine, and the International Commercial Arbitration Court of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Sviriba has extensive experience in due diligence as a dispute-resolution technique. He has conducted due diligence with the largest Ukrainian, Russian and multinational companies, with a view to exposing and assessing potential disputes, and has represented clients in a number of dispute-resolution negotiations.
In 2004 Mr. Sviriba rejoined the Firm after serving for more than two years as the Deputy Chief of Trade & Economic Mission to the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA, where his major responsibilities included supervising trade, investment and commercial disputes between Ukraine and the USA, as well as between Ukrainian and U.S. companies. Mr. Sviriba participated in all major government-to-government trade dispute negotiations, including the U.S.poultry trade inUkraine, steel, chemicals and textile trade.
Before leaving for the government service, he had an extensive court and arbitration practice, successfully representing ITERA Corp., Toepfer, Honeywell, Dniproazot, Nizhnedneprovsky Tube Plant and other companies etc.
In 1999-2000 he served as a judge clerk in the Supreme Commercial Court of Ukraine with specialization in commercial disputes among private parties and state agencies.
Serhii Sviriba also practiced international trade law as a part of the Firm’s trade team from 1997 to 2000, and handled all current trade cases when working at the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA. He has represented clients in corporate and investment matters providing legal services to U.S., British, and German investors throughout Ukraine and Russia with emphasis on building productive investor-government relations, including the settlement of disputes with local and national authorities.
In 1995 Mr. Sviriba was among the first to be appointed as the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations' trade expert within the Inter-ministerial Committee onUkraine's Accession to the WTO.
Serhii Sviriba also specializes in corporate fraud and international asset tracing, having conducted financial fraud investigations, prosecuted civil claims for fraud and pursued misappropriated assets. He counsels corporate clients in fraud prevention and emergency fraud response.
He has diploma of Jurisprudence (honors), International Law Department, Institute of International Relations, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, Ukraine, 1995.
Mr. Sviriba is a member of Ukrainian Bar Association. In December 2005 Mr. Sviriba was elected as a Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Court of Arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris.
