In the mid-1990's, when major western corporations began entering the Russian market. The Firm's first clients were international investors and foreign law firms representing investors in Russia. These clients needed competent legal advice with respect to Russian Law from attorneys knowing the realities of the Russian market and how this emerging market might fit into an international framework.
As privatization in Russia progressed and Russian private firms began to emerge, Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev & Partners began representing Russian business interests in the United States and other countries. We combined our unique understanding of Russian companies with our knowledge and practical experience in the US legal system to offer comprehensive representation of clients' interests abroad.
Since the late 1990's, Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev and Partners have been actively involved in the economic development taking place in Russia. In particular, the Firm repeatedly defended the rights and interests of various businesses from attempted hostile takeovers and asserted the rights of shareholders against illegal asset-stripping.
Building upon Russian economic growth and increased activity of the Russian business, Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners has developed into the leading law firm in Russia.
Legal adviser on the largest M&A deals in the Russian corporate history, Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners has became the first Russian law firm to enter the international legal market as a firm of international regard.
In 2007 Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners opened an associated office in London, UK. Located at 3 Gough Square EC4, in the City of London, the office neighbours the world’s major law firms and investment banks. The associated office of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners is the venue for managing international projects for the firm’s Russian clients, as well as liaising with UK, US and European law firms.
In 2008 Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners became the first Russian law firm to win the Chambers Europe Russian National Law Firm of the Year award and the Gold Award for the Best Russian Law Firm of the Year 2008 at the International Legal Alliance Summit Awards. The same year the firm was awarded for Achievements in the Legal Profession by the Federal Bar Association of the Russian Federation.
