On 23-25 June 2010 Minsk, Belarus, hosted the fifth CIS Local Counsel Forum attended by the leading lawyers from the CIS economic region and all over the world, including Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners’ Dimitry Afanasiev, Ilya Nikiforov, Allen Thomas and Alexey Andrusenko.
Hosted by the leading Belarusian law firm Vlasova Mikhel & Partners, member of the CIS Leading Counsel Network (LCN), the Forum presented the most outstanding program and traditionally brought together leading business lawyers from the CIS economic region and from around the world, with an approximately equal split between representatives of the international legal community and of the CIS legal community.
Minsk was chosen by the delegates as the venue for the fifth Forum at the fourth Forum, which was successfully held in Kiev in 2009, and following the third Forum hosted by Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners in St. Petersburg in 2008.
Opening the fifth Forum Dimitry Afanasiev, Chairman of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners and Co-Chair of the CIS Local Counsel Forum, shared his vision of future trends in the legal profession across the globe.
Later in the day Ilya Nikiforov spoke at the panel “We All are Local Counsel”, discussing how law firms search, choose, and build long-term relationships.
The Forum was preceded by a unique seminar on Asian Financial Markets, co-hosted by Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners and Hong Kong Exchange (HKEx) and attended by Mr. Lawrence Fok, Executive Vice President Head of Issuer Marketing Division of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. Other speakers at the seminar were Allen Thomas, Head of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners LLP, and Alexey Andrusenko, Head of IPO practice at Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners.
One more special feature and fun of the fifth Forum was the football match between two volunteer teams of delegates "Johannesburg in Minsk" – “legal” alternative to the ongoing 2010 FIFA World Cup which was suggested by Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners.
